
Two Drillers sweep NIFL weekly awards

BEAUMONT, TX - Beaumont Drillers running back Roland Hayes and linebacker Shane Winchester swept the weekly NIFL Player of the Week awards for June 7.
Hayes was named the Offensive and Special Teams player of the week. Hayes had a career game last week in the 62-59 win over Wyoming as he scored 7 touchdowns, 6 rushing and 1, 50-yard kickoff return for a score. He ran for 83 yards on 23 carries and had four receptions for 19 yards. This was the 2nd time Hayes has won Offensive Player of the Week award this season. Hayes had 7 kickoff returns for a total of 182 yards, 1 TD (50 yds) with an average of 26.0.
The 7 touchdowns tied a NIFL record-high and set a new Beaumont franchise record that he set last year with 6. Hayes joins four other NIFL players to score 7 total touchdowns in one game.
A Lumberton native, Winchester was named the NIFL Defensive Player of the Week for the 2nd time in 3 weeks, 3rd overall this season.
Winchester had 13.5 tackles last week vs. Wyoming, 4 tackles for a loss (-14), 2 forced fumbles, 1 interception return for 29 yards and 1 sack for minus-9 yards.
He leads the NIFL in tackles, 75.5, and sacks, 8.5.
The 6-5 Drillers will host the reigning NIFL Champions Tri-Cities Fever (7-4) this Saturday at 7:05 p.m. inside Ford Arena.
