Denver Cutthroats News Release
Denver - The Denver Cutthroats are pleased to announce that goaltender John Griggs and forward Kyle Fletcher have returned for their second season with the team.
Griggs joined the Cutthroats in March of 2014. In 12 games, he recorded 331 saves for 10 wins, one loss and a .925 saves percent average. "We look forward to having John Griggs being an integral part to the Cutthroats upcoming season," said Denver Cutthroats Head Coach Brad Smyth. "Acquiring him halfway during the season, he provided much needed stability in between the pipes and subsequently became a fan favorite."
The former University of Alabama-Huntsville netminder helped his team to notch two shutouts in their run for the playoffs, including a 3-0 victory during his inaugural night in green. "I'm really excited for the opportunity to join the Cutthroats for another year," said Griggs. "Hopefully we can bring the cup to Denver for the best fans in the Central Hockey League. I can't wait to get back to Denver in October."
Kyle Fletcher suited up for his first game with the Cutthroats in February and played 16 games in the 2013-14 season with four goals and six assists. The former College of the Holy Cross student-athlete was a key component in all 16 post-season games, notching four goals and three assists. "We are happy to have Kyle back as part of the organization," said Smyth. "He steadily improved during the second half of the season and was an important player during our playoff run."
The forward was one of two players to score a goal for the Denver Cutthroats in the final game of the Ray Miron Presidents' Cup against the Allen Americans. "I'm extremely excited to be coming back to Denver," said Fletcher. "Last season obviously did not end the way we had wanted it to. Losing in the finals hurt, but it gives us motivation for the upcoming season. I'm looking forward to getting the season started with coach Smythand working towards winning thechampionship this time around."
The Denver Cutthroats will hit the ice for their third season in October 2014 at the historic Denver Coliseum. Season tickets and mini-plans are available now at DenverCutthroats.com or by calling 303.295.3474.
