December 16, 2021 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Houston Dash News Release
The Houston Dash had two players selected in the 2022 NWSL Expansion Draft earlier this evening. Midfielder Kristie Mewis was selected by San Diego Wave FC with the No. 2 pick and forward Jasmyne Spencer was selected by Angel City FC with the No. 5 pick in the expansion draft.
The Dash will receive $150,000 in Allocation Money from San Diego for selecting Mewis in the expansion draft. Mewis was one of two U.S. allocated players on the Dash roster.
Mewis was acquired by Houston in a trade with the Chicago Red Stars in 2017 and appeared in 67 matches across all competitions for the Dash, including Houston's 2020 Challenge Cup Championship run. The midfielder scored 14 goals across all competitions with the Dash with a career high in 2019 with four goals.
Spencer joined the Dash earlier this year in May following a trade with OL Reign. Spencer made her Dash debut against Kansas City on June 6. The Maryland grad appeared in 18 games for the Dash, started nine games and scored a goal.
Houston recently completed a long 2021 season that featured appearances in the 2021 Challenge Cup, the Women's International Champions Cup and the 2021 NWSL regular season. Several players on the Dash roster also competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as well as call ups for international friendlies and World Cup Qualifying matches. Dash head coach James Clarkson enters into his fourth season with the club and looks to build an even more competitive team in 2022.
