Arkansas Diamonds News Release
(North Little Rock, AR) â Reigning Gulf South Football Player of the Year and former University of Arkansas at Monticello quarterback Cory Allred has been assigned to the Arkansas Twisters for the upcoming season.
"We are glad to have signed our fourth quarterback," said Head Coach Gary Anderson. "Cory is definitely a good one. You can't be Gulf South Player of the Year for two years straight without having talent and ability. We look forward to seeing Cory in camp."
Allred was just the sixth player in the history of the Gulf South Conference to earn player of the year honors back to back seasons after completing just over 57 percent of his passes for 3464 yards and 27 touchdowns. He was second on the team in rushing yardage with 257 and ran for 9 nine touchdowns, ranking fifth in the NCAA with 338 yards per game average.
He finished his Boll Weevils career with just over 7000 yards passing and nearly 7900 total yards of offense.
"Cory is a hard nose player," explains Twisters General Manager Andy Haskell. "I've watched him play. He can beat you with his arm or with his legs. We look forward to having him in camp."
Allred will compete for a roster spot when spring camp opens on March 24. The Twisters have invited four quarterbacks to camp; Allred, returning starter Travis Motley, Chris Windsor, and former UCA quarterback Henry Young.
The 2005 season kicks off on April 9 at Alltel Arena and season tickets are on sale. Fans can call 975-KICK to order season tickets.
