Austin Turfcats News Release

Austin, TX - The Austin Turfcats are currently preparing for their first road game in franchise history this coming weekend. The Turfcats will play the Houma Conquerors at the Terrebonne Civic Center on Sunday April 26th; kickoff is slated at 5:00p.m.

This will be a home opener for the Conquerors, they fell in their season opener to the Texas Pirates 46-27 in Houston. The Turfcats dropped their opener 37-29 to the Acadiana Mudbugs at Adfirmative.com field at the Travis County Expo Center.

Houma finished the game versus Texas with six turnovers (three fumbles and three interceptions), which Texas (1-0) converted into 19 points.

The Turfcats came out of the gates slow versus the Mudbugs, but the team rebounded quickly as they had a chance to tie the game late but a unsuccessful fourth down play on the Mudbugs 15-yard line foiled the comeback.

The Turfcats will be led by Darrick Wallace as he scored two touchdowns, the Grambling State product will be happy to make a return to the bayou state this coming weekend. Wallace had 144 all-purpose yards for the Turfcats in the opening game.

Wallace said, "I live or die for special teams, our fans were a big part of the team and will help motivate the team to grow. It was our first game. We will get back in on Monday and iron out the creases."

Turfcats Head Coach Chris Duliban said postgame, "I thought the guys gave everything on the field." We have to learn how to put them in a choke hold." Duliban explained the rowdy crowd full of friends, family and fans added to the nerves of the new team, but they will find their groove. The nerviness led to three quick scores by the Mudbugs. "[Nerves] are no excuse, you have got to have tunnel vision on the field," the coach said.
