
Texas Pirates Take Opener against Houma

HOUSTON (April 19, 2008) -- Roland Hayes rushed for four touchdowns as the Texas Pirates defeated the Houma Conquerors 46-27 Sunday afternoon in a Southern Indoor Football League game.
Hayes had three first-half touchdowns as the Pirates scored the first 25 points and took a 39-9 halftime lead.
Houma scored 16 unanswered points in the third quarter to close to 39-25 on a Chris Stropolo 39-yard field goal with two minutes in the quarter. A Roosevelt Thomas interception gave Houma the ball and a chance to close to one touchdown.
The Pirates defense held the Houma offense without a touchdown in the final quarter, and Hayes' fourth touchdown gave Texas a 46-25 lead.
A Joe Townsend rush, Ed Miller's interception return and an Andre Roy to Chris Miller pass accounted for the other Texas touchdowns. Omar Haugabook threw two touchdown passes for the Conquerors, while Derrick Patterson returned an interception for a score.
