Tulsa 66ers News Release

TULSA, Okla., March 4, 2006 - The Tulsa 66ers closed the weekend homestand with a two-game winning streak after a 120-103 win over the Austin Toros on Saturday afternoon at the Expo Square Pavilion.

"We had thirty-three assists tonight," said 66ers head coach Joey Meyer. "Will [Conroy] had 16 on his own. When we share and fight like that, we can be a dangerous team. Our guys played hard and really focused defensively and it showed tonight."

While a cold front that swept through Tulsa made for a chilly day outside, inside the Pavilion the 66ers came out hot from the beginning, dominating the game in all aspects. With their offense clicking on all cylinders and a tough defense, the 66ers went into the halftime break with a commanding 62-49 lead. In the second half the Toros fought hard in an attempt to close the gap, but the 66ers continued their strong play and emerged victorious.

Seven 66ers scored in double figures led by 22 points from Eddie Basden, on assignment from the Chicago Bulls. John Lucas had another strong performance with 20 points, and Ersan Ilyasova, on assignment from the Milwaukee Bucks, chipped in with 16 points and three blocked shots. It was Conroy's double-double of 11 points and an amazing 16 assists that proved to be Tulsa's helping hand.

Julius Hodge, recently assigned to Austin by the Denver Nuggets, led the Toros with 31 points, and forward Marcus Fizer added a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Derrick Zimmerman also scored in double figures with 12 points and lent a healthy six assists.

Austin finished the game shooting 52.4 percent from the field to Tulsa's 56 percent. Tulsa barely outrebounded the Toros 39-38. Austin was just 2-of-8 from the 3-point line compared to Tulsa's 11-of-22 from beyond the arch.

The win moves the 66ers' record to 15-20 and drops the Toros to 20-14.
