Weekend Recap: The Oilers earned their first point of the season and went 0-1-1 during the opening weekend in Denver. In Friday's season opener against the Cutthroats, Tulsa suffered a 4-1 loss and allowed 45 shots on goal. Todd Robinson recorded his first goal of the season on an Oilers power play in the third period but Denver goalie Kieran Millan stole the show by stopping 36 of Tulsa's 37 shots. The Cutthroats broke the game open six minutes into the third period when Matt Glasser's shorthanded breakaway tally gave the home team a 3-0 lead. Saturday, the Oilers carried a 2-0 advantage into the third period only to watch the Cutthroats rally for a 3-2 shootout victory. The 18-round shootout, the longest in at least the last ten years in the CHL, was dominated by the goaltenders. Ross MacKinnon, making his first start as an Oiler, stopped 15 of the 18 Denver shooters but was outdueled by Kieran Millan who shut down 16 of the 18 Tulsa attempts. The Cutthroats had 11 chances to win the shootout before defenseman Steve Kaunisto finally ended the stalemate with a snap shot over MacKinnon's glove. Ryan Menei and Ryan Cramer provided the Oilers the two-goal lead but a 5-on-3 power play in the third period allowed the Cutthroats to begin their comeback.

Shootout Spectacular: Thomas Beauregard and Ben Gordon were the only Oilers shooters to solve Kieran Millan in Saturday's electrifying 18-round shootout, the longest shootout in Oilers franchise history. Because CHL rules state that no more than 10 players from each team may participate in the shootout, the Oilers had eight players with two attempts. The longest shootout in NHL history lasted 15 rounds on November 26, 2005 between the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals. Without accurate CHL records prior to 2002, the Oilers and Cutthroats shootout is believed to be the longest in league history but the record cannot be confirmed.

Robinson's Early Impact: Newly acquired Oilers center and former CHL scoring champ, Todd Robinson, wasted little time in making his presence felt in the Oilers lineup. Playing alongside line mates Thomas Beauregard and Ben Gordon, Robinson scored a power play goal on Friday night and registered his first assist as an Oiler on Saturday. The 35-year old notched both points on the power play and finished Saturday's contest with 11 shots on goal to lead all skaters. Robinson, who will play in his 900th career game on Saturday, has 200 points in 134 CHL contests.

Power Play Pop: In two games in Denver, Tulsa capitalized on two of its eight power play opportunities for a 25-percent success rate. Oilers coach Bruce Ramsay used four forwards for a majority of the power play minutes and hopes the infusion of offensive talent will turn around a power play unit that ranked eighth in the CHL last season.

Cescon Provides Muscle: Less than one period into his first game as an Oiler, defenseman Craig Cescon traded punches with Cutthroats forward, Jean-Phillipp Chabot. Through two games, Cescon leads the Oilers with nine penalty minutes. In four of his six pro seasons, the Mississauga, Ontario native has surpassed 140 penalty minutes.

All He Does Is Win: Ross MacKinnon brings extremely impressive credentials into his first season with the Oilers. The 26-year old goaltender is fresh off an SPHL championship in 2012-13 with the Pensacola Ice Flyers. MacKinnon, who ranked third in the SPHL's regular season in goals against average (2.06) and third in save percentage (.935), allowed only nine goals in six playoff games and earned SPHL Playoff MVP honors. Before turning pro, MacKinnon backstopped Neumann University to a NCAA D-III National Title in 2011. The Connecticut native was named the MVP of the Frozen Four.
