Tulsa 66ers News Release

Tulsa, Okla., January 30, 2009 - Ryan Humphrey scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds, but the Tulsa 66ers fell to the visiting Austin Toros 111-91 on Friday night at the SpiritBank Event Center.

The 66ers fell behind after a 10-10 tie with eight minutes left in the first quarter, when the Toros went on a 14-2 run to be on top 24-12. With a size advantage in the middle, Austin took control of the boards with 25 rebounds in the first half, including 11 on the offensive end. Austin shot 50 percent (24-48) while attempting 21 more field goals than the 66ers and took a 60-40 lead into halftime.

"We sagged a bit on defense to combat their bigs," 66ers Head Coach Paul Woolpert said. "Then their outside shooters hurt us."

The teams traded baskets through the third quarter, as Humphrey and Austin's Ezra Williams each scored double-figure points in the period. A 7-0 run by the 66ers in the fourth quarter cut the Toros' lead to 97-83, but the momentum was thwarted by an Eric Dawson lay-up with 5:54 remaining in the game.

Along with Humphrey, Tulsa (6-18) finished with four players scoring in double-figures. Keith Clark had 23 points and eight rebounds, while Moses Ehambe and Gary Ervin came off the bench to score a combined 27 points.

The Toros (17-7) had two players with double-doubles, as Pops Mensah-Bonsu had 23 points and 13 rebounds in his first game with Austin and Dawson finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Ezra Williams contributed 20 points, while Marcus Williams added 19 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Nate Brown dished out a game-high 13 assists for the Toros.

Both teams match-up again tomorrow night in the second game of the back-to-back series in Tulsa. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
