TULSA, Okla., December 13, 2005 - The Tulsa 66ers players, coaches, dancers and front office staff will sort Angel Tree donations at the Salvation Army located at 7201 E 38th St. on Wednesday, Dec. 15 beginning at 2 p.m. Along with head coach Joey Meyer, 66ers staff will organize thousands of presents donated by local residents for The Salvation Army's annual Angel Tree program. The Angel Tree program, sponsored by Channel 6 KOTV, K-95 FM and Simon Properties, opened in mid-November and closes on December 24.
The program offers holiday shoppers the opportunity to purchase gifts for children, disabled adults and/or senior citizens. Shoppers are encouraged to select a Christmas tag from the Angel Tree and donate the gift indicated on the tag to The Salvation Army. Shoppers who participate in the program agree to purchase at least $25 worth of Christmas gifts for each person adopted. Unwrapped gifts are returned to the Woodland Hills Mall booth and The Salvation Army distributes them at the Christmas Center.
Tulsa 66ers players, coaches, dancers and front office staff members will be on hand from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to assist The Salvation Army in the Angel Tree program and other various volunteer projects as well.
"This is a great opportunity for the Tulsa 66ers to give back to the community that supports the team. We hope others will join us in helping their neighbors this holiday season," said Tulsa 66ers president Joe Berry.
"You always put points on the board when you help those who don't have the means to help themselves," said Brad Borror, Public Relations Director for The Tulsa Salvation Army.
The NBA Development League includes theTulsa 66ers (Okla.), Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), Austin Toros (Texas), Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas) and Roanoke Dazzle (Va.).
The D-League offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Thirty-four (34) players have been called up to the NBA on 50 separate occasions. Eleven (11) former D-League coaches, six athletic trainers, 14 referees and 30 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.
Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the league also offers fun, family entertainment at affordable prices. The D-League is a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 30 teams and is a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
