Tulsa 66ers News Release

TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa 66ers were able to complete their climb back to the .500 mark Friday night in Tulsa as they defeated the Albuquerque Thunderbirds 98-89, evening their record at 4-4 and extending their season-long winning streak to three games.

Tulsa jumped on the Thunderbirds early claiming a 17-11 lead behind the efforts of game-high scorer, Otis George who poured in a game-high 21 points and tied Tulsa's Tony Kitchings and Ersan Ilyasova (assigned from the Milwaukee Bucks) with 11 rebounds in the contest. Albuquerque scored six unanswered points pulling even at 17 with 3:25 left in the first. Tulsa came back with a 6-0 run of their own before T-birds head coach, Michael Cooper, was given back-to-back technical fouls and shown the door. Tulsa would go on to control the first half taking a 54-45 lead into the locker room.

"We played a great first half and then really let them back in the game in the third," said Tulsa head coach Joey Meyer.

Albuquerque came out with a spark in the second half and cut the lead to two midway through the third quarter.

T.J. Cummings led the Albuquerque charge, scoring 17 of his team-high 19 in the second half. The Thunderbirds then took a 70-66 lead into the fourth quarter, but George and Seamus Boxley, who added 9 of his 18 points in the last quarter, would not let the 66ers die. Tulsa took the lead for good with 5:07 left in the game on a jumper by Boxley.

"I just played within the flow of the team," Boxley said.

"I was really proud. The team could have folded early in the second but they didn't," said Meyer.

Tulsa's only loss this evening was center Cedric Suitt who sprained his right knee late in the first quarter and did not return to action. Tulsa looks to extend their four-game home winning streak as they take on the Roanoke Dazzle for the first time on Saturday, December 10 at the Expo Square Pavilion in Tulsa. Tipoff is 7 p.m.
