Tucson Padres News Release
The Tucson Padres tied their season high for runs in an inning Tuesday, scoring nine times in the fifth in their 9-6 victory over the Salt Lake Bees at Spring Mobile Ballpark.
Salt Lake jumped ahead in the first inning with back-to-back triples by Peter Bourjos and Andrew Romine. Ed Lucas brought home Hank Conger on a sacrifice fly to right field to increase the Bees lead to 2-0 in the second inning.
The Padres sent 13 batters to the plate in top of the fifth to take a 9-2 lead. Daniel Robertson's RBI single and Andy Parrino's hit by pitch with the bases loaded tied the score at two. Jedd Gyorko put Tucson ahead of Salt Lake with a sacrifice fly to center field. Matt Clark followed with a two-run single to right field and Vince Belnome later singled him home for a 6-2 score. The next batter, Sawyer Carroll blasted a three-run home run to left field for the final runs of the inning.
The Bees got one run back in the bottom half of the fifth from Romine's sacrifice fly to left field. Salt Lake had an opportunity for another run in the seventh on a single by Romine, but Padres left fielder Jonathan Roof threw out Trevor Crowe trying to score from second base. Cory Aldridge's three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth cut Tucson's lead in half to 9-6.
Ross Ohlendorf earned his first win with Tucson, pitching six innings in relief of starter Anthony Bass. Salt Lake starting pitcher Brad Mills allowed eight hits and six runs in his ninth loss of the season.
