Sacramento Steals 4-3 Win with 9th Inning Rally

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox (73-66) had the Sacramento River Cats (83-56) down to their final strike three times but Jemile Weeks singled in two runs in the final frame to steal the game 4-3, spoiling a solid outing by Sox starter Rob Scahill as well as the Major League rehabs of Troy Tulowitzki and Jason Giambi.

Tulowitzki and Giambi were making their first appearance in the rehab assignments with the Sox, with Tulowitzki starting his second stint with Colorado Springs. With the Sox trailing 2-1 in the fifth, Tulowitzki blasted a solo homer to center field with two outs for his second homer in as many games with the Sky Sox this season in his final at-bat of the night. Tulowitzki had a single in the game as well, while Giambi collected one hit in his three at-bats. Tulowitzki is now 4-for-5 in his two games for the Sky Sox with three RBI.

The Sox held a 3-2 lead in the ninth when reliever Coty Woods retired the first two batters of the inning and had Blake Lalli, Jermaine Mitchell and Jemile Weeks down to the final strike, but allowed singles to all three batters to give the River Cats the win that clinched the Pacific Southern Division Championship. It was only the second loss for the Sky Sox this season when holding a lead after the eighth inning, and it was Woods second blown save in 13 chances this season.

The Sox on the night passed the previous high of 1,042 strikeouts in one season with eight strikeouts to increase their new record total to 1,049 on the year with Rob Scahill notching eight strikeouts on the night. Scahill went seven innings allowing only one earned run, but was left with a no decision after the River Cats came back to win it in the ninth.

In the series finale, the Sky Sox will send out right-hander Guillermo Moscoso (8-6, 6.23 ERA) to face off with Sacramento righty Travis Banwart (8-5, 3.89 ERA) as they try to keep their playoff hopes alive. Tulowitzki and Giambi will join the Sky Sox for another game in their rehab assignments, with the action kicking off at 6:05 p.m. MT.
