Tucson Padres News Release

The Tucson Padres have been honored by the Arizona Recycling Coalition as having the best recycling efforts in Arizona in the Entertainment and Sports Category. The Tucson Padres initiated their 2011 recycling program with the City of Tucson Environmental Services Department and requested large recycling containers be present for all home games. The Padres set an aggressive goal of recycling five tons (10,000 lbs.) of material during the season.

The Padres worked with the Environmental Services Department to educate vendors, staff members and fans on how and what to recycle at a public venue. The results of this recycling program have been a home run, as the Tucson Padres and their fans have recycled 23,000 lbs. (11.5 tons) of material, averaging 400 lbs. of recycled material per game.

Representatives of the City of Tucson, including Mayor Bob Walkup, as well as representatives from Pima County will present the award to the Tucson Padres before the game Saturday, August 20th at Kino Stadium. As a reward to Tucson Padres fans for making this important award possible, everyone in attendance Saturday will receive a coupon to Outback Steakhouse good for a free Bloomin' Onion with the purchase of an entrée. The coupon will be handed out starting in the seventh inning when fans exit the stadium.
