
Tucson Drops Series Opener to Memphis 7-2

Tucson, AZ - The Sidewinders dropped their series opener against Memphis 7-2 on Saturday night at Tucson Electric Park.
Arizona Diamondback's Doug Davis made is first rehab start after under going thyroid cancer surgery, pitching 4 2/3 innings while giving up two runs on six hits. Davis fanned three, walked one and threw a total of 85 pitches. Memphis starter, P.J. Walters threw for 6 1/3 innings giving up one run, seven hits, and striking out three batters.
The Redbirds put up one run in the first when Josh Phelps grounded out to third scoring Colby Rasmus. Memphis' Joe Mather drove in another run in the fifth with an RBI single to center. A Brian Barden RBI triple gave the Redbirds a 3-0 lead in the seventh inning.
Tucson's Jamie D'Antona cut the lead by two in the seventh with a solo shot to left, his fifth of the year. It was countered by a Jarret Hoffpauir 2-run jack in the eighth extended the Redbirds lead 5-1. Memphis put two more on in the ninth to seal the victory.
The Sidewinders will face the Memphis Redbirds in the second game of the series starting at 6:00 PM on Sunday night. RHP Juan Gutierrez (1-5, 4.06) is scheduled to start for Tucson. Right-hander Blake Hawksworth (0-5, 8.02) will start for the Redbirds. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 5:50 pm.
