Murfreesboro Musicians News Release
Murfreesboro Musicians back-up Point Guard, Ray Trowell hit a 3 pointer with one second remaining in regulation time to give the Musicians a 113-110 victory over the Druid City Dragons at Musicians Arena in Murfreesboro Friday night. Trowell's shot came after Druid City Center, Mack McGaney hit a 3 pointer to tie the game at 110 with 9.1 seconds to play. The Musicians immediately called time-out and moved the ball up to mid-court where Musicians Head Coach Steve Tucker diagrammed a play. "Coach drew up a play where the first looks were to Pip (Will Pippen) or Caudle (Will Caudle). When Pip got the ball he didn't have a good look, so he penetrated and pitched the ball to me. I had a good look, so I took the shot and fortunately it went in. It was a big win for our team tonight!" stated Trowell after the game.
Murfreesboro led by as many as 10 points in the third quarter, but Druid City battled back to tie the game at 85 heading into the fourth quarter. The Dragons from Tuscaloosa, AL started the fourth quarter off hot and led the Musicians by 9 points with 6:38 to play. The Musicians battled back though to lead by 3 points with under twenty seconds to play when McGaney hit his 3 to tie the score. From that point Trowell hit to biggest shot of the season thus far for Murfreesboro to give the Musicians the big home victory in front of a good crowd at Musicians Arena.
Murfreesboro was led in scoring by newly acquired Center, Will Caudle with 23 points. Tommy Gunn, Cedric McGinnis, & Trowell followed up with 20 points each, and Will Pippin added 16 points. Druid City's Brandon Robinson was the game's leading scorer with 29 points (22 of those came in the first half). Mack McGaney scored 18 points, Ricky Gibson had 16, and Donnie Cultan chipped in 13 to lead a balanced Dragons attack.
Murfreesboro and Druid City are now tied for 3rd place in the WBA's Western Division with 7-6 records each. The Musicians will host the Cleveland Majic (6-6) at Musicians Arena in Murfreesboro on Saturday night, while Druid City will host the Division leading Mississippi Hardhats (10-4) in Tuscaloosa, AL on Saturday night. Both games are scheduled the tip-off at 7pm.
MUSICIANS NOTES:
* Newly acquired Musicians Center, Will Caudle is averaging 25.1 ppg and 12.5 rpg in his first two games for his new team. Caudle is a rookie player fresh out of Xavier University in Ohio and is originally from Indianapolis, IN.
