Musicians keep the beat over Majic

June 11, 2006 - World Basketball Association (WBA)
Murfreesboro Musicians News Release

The Murfreesboro Musicians kept in rhythm on Saturday night by winning their second game at home in two days with a 112-101 defeat of the Cleveland Majic.

The Musicians got out quick led by big center, Will Caudle, and forwards, Cedric McGinnis and Will Pippen. The Musicians led by as many as ten points in the first half and were up 57-54 at half-time.

Murfreesboro extended its lead to ten again mid-way through the 3rd quarter, but Cleveland stormed back led by Flem Tucker, Eddie Baker, Kyle Gribble, and Malcolm Battles to tie the Musicians at 77 heading into the fourth quarter. The Majic shot the lights out from three point range to take a seven point lead at the halfway point of the final quarter, but as they did the night before Murfreesboro were not to be denied and back-up Point Guard, Ray Trowell led a late game rally once again. Tommy Gunn broke a 95-95 tie with a thunderous dunk and was fouled on the play with three minutes to play. Gunn completed the three play by converting the free-throw and the Musicians took control from there to pull away for the victory.

The Musicians were led by a banner performance from Caudle, who scored 27 points and grabbed 20 rebounds. McGinnis complimented Caudle by putting in 27 points as well and pulling down 11 rebounds. Pippen and Gunn followed up with 24 and 20 points respectively. The Majic were led in scoring by Baker with 25 points, Gribble scored 23 points, and Battles powered in 20 points.

The Musicians are now 8-6 on the season in the WBA and are in second place in the WBA's Western Division, just behind Mississippi, who have lost four of their last five games. Murfreesboro will travel to Tuscaloosa, AL to take on Druid City next Thursday night, and will return home the following night, June 16th to host the Marietta Storm at Musicians Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm.

MUSICIANS NOTES:

* The Musicians have won four of their last five games and are doing it with great balance now with the additions of Will Pippen and Will Caudle to compliment Cedric McGinnis and Tommy Gunn. In addition, the development of young players Nick Clark, Dexter Hall, Dameon Goodman, and Ray Trowell have truly turned the Musicians into WBA Championship Contenders this season. Come out and watch this young and exciting professional basketball team! GO MUSICIANS...
