Murfreesboro Musicians News Release
Over the course of the past few weeks the Murfreesboro Musicians have revamped their lineup and have put themselves in a position to make a run at the WBA Championship in late June and early July.
Co-owner/General Manager Ben Tankard and Director of Basketball Operations/Head Coach Steve Tucker have led this effort in building up the Musicians roster. "We just felt we needed to get better in some areas, so we went out and slowly started to bring in players that could compliment what we already have here!" states Tucker.
The Musicians Head Coach likes what he sees on court now with the Musicians improved roster. "We have worked long and hard to build this first Musicians team, but it became apparent to us that we needed to add some experience and talent. In bringing in Cedric McGinnis, we got a consummate professional both on and off the court, who is an excellent leader and role model for our young players. He also complimented Tommy Gunn in the way he plays the game. We also felt we needed a consistent scorer and when Will Pippen got back from Japan, we signed him immediately and that has paid dividends for us, for Pip can really put the ball in the basket. He is just flat out a shooter that compliments a great scorer in Gunn! The last piece I felt we needed was a straight back to the basket player on the low post that could go get us inside baskets consistently and who could compliment McGinnis. When Will Caudle became available, who I feel is the best low post player in the WBA, it was a natural fit for us, and we went out and made the deal to get him here. Yes, we gave up a good prospect in Julius Lamptey, but it is about now, and winning now, so we felt it was a good trade for our franchise. These four players along with how our young players have developed has put us in a good position and we're excited about playing this thing out and seeing just how good we are right now and how good we can become!"
The Musicians Head Coach knows how tough it is going to be the remainder of this 2006 WBA Season. "There are seven teams that I feel legitimately have a shot at winning this season's WBA Championship! This is really a good professional basketball league, and there is no one playing right now on the minor league pro basketball level that has better players or teams than the WBA (period)! The talent and teams in the WBA are of very high quality and on any given night anyone can beat anyone else! Rome is in my opinion the team to beat right now, but Mississippi is not far behind them, and you have to be aware of Cartersville and Druid City. Marietta and Arkansas have excellent teams as well and I feel we fit in there somewhere too with these teams. One thing is for sure, the WBA Championship Tournament is going to be a must see event in late June and early July. Every NBA, D League, CBA, ABA scout and scouts/coaches from abroad should be there if they want to see some outstanding players and teams face off to decide the WBA Championship! I'll tell you people who miss this tournament will be missing something special as we finish up this WBA season."
