North Bay Battalion News Release
NORTH BAY, Ont. - The North Bay Battalion broke training camp Thursday with 25 skaters and three goaltenders still in the running for roster positions with the Ontario Hockey League club.
Goaltenders Dom DiVincentiis, Charlie Robertson and Mike McIvor were retained with eight defencemen, numbering Paul Christopoulos, Ty Nelson, Tnias Mathurin, Wyatt Kennedy, Alex Cajkovic, Brayden Turley, Tyson Rismond and Zach Wilson.
A total of 17 forwards are made up of six centres, six left wingers and five right wingers. The centres are Liam Arnsby, Pasquale Zito, Dalyn Wakely, Ethan Procyszyn, Dylan Richter and Nolan Laird, while the left wingers number Justin Ertel, Owen Van Steensel, Brice Cooke, Chase MacQueen-Spence, Ihnat Pazii and Carter Kostuch. The right wingers are Anthony Romani, Brett Bouchard, Stef Forgione, Jacob Therrien and Lirim Amidovski.
Pazii, a Ukrainian who didn't take part in camp contact while recovering from knee surgery, was North Bay's first-round pick in the Canadian Hockey League Import Draft in July, while Cajkovic, a Slovakian who played in Sweden, was the second-rounder.
Kostuch was the Battalion's first-round choice in the OHL Priority Selection in April, and Wilson was taken in the third round with the Troops' second pick.
Forgione, 18, is the only one of five free-agent invitees still with the team after the four-day camp. He had nine goals and nine assists for 18 points in 31 games last season with the junior A Aurora Tigers of the Ontario Junior Hockey League after going without a point in 13 games in 2021-22 with the Mississauga Steelheads, who made him a fifth-round selection in 2021.
Sixteen holdovers were regulars with the Battalion last season, while McIvor, Rismond, MacQueen-Spence, Richter and Amidovski saw a handful of games.
The roster includes four overagers, in Christopoulos, Arnsby, Ertel and Zito. Teams may dress three in any given game.
Assistant coach Scott Wray's Team White defeated Bill Houlder's Team Green 6-3 in the last intrasquad game to take the camp title three games to two.
Van Steensel led camp scorers with five goals and as many assists for 10 points, while Romani had five goals and four assists for nine points. Laird scored two goals and added five assists for seven points.
The Battalion opens a four-game exhibition schedule against the Ottawa 67's at Memorial Gardens at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Van Steensel scored the first two goals to spark White to victory, and Jesse Lefebvre capped camp scoring with an empty-netter. DiVincentiis played all 60 minutes in goal for the win.
