
Triple-A Team Drops Duel to Yanks

Clearwater, Fla.) - The Phillies' Triple-A Spring Training squad lost a pitching duel to the Yankees' Triple-A team, 2-1, on Wednesday at Carpenter Complex.
With the score tied, 1-1, in the top of the eighth inning, the Yanks' managed the eventually winning tally on an unearned run off RHP Yorman Bazardo (L, 1.0 ip, 1 h, 1 r, 0 er, 1 bb, 2 k) - who fell to 0-1 in the Spring Training exhibition season.
RHP Justin Lehr started and pitched effectively, leaving the game at 1-1 after four innings. A potential IronPig, the 31-year-old tossed four innings, allowing four hits and the one earned run while walking two and fanning two. RHP John Ennis continued his strong spring by following with three scoreless innings (2 h, 1 bb, 4 k) - and now has gone 7.0 scoreless frames in his three appearances back with the team. RHP Blaine Neal was the fourth and final pitcher on Wednesday, finishing with a scoreless ninth inning (1 h, 1 k).
Justin Lehr posted strong combined numbers with the Louisville Bats last year - as his International League season was split by a stint in the Korean League. In all, he went 6-2 with a 2.10 ERA in 16 G, 8 GS. He began as a starter with the Bats prior to having his contract sold to the Doosan Bears on May 23. After going 0-6, 5.66 in 8 games overseas, he was resigned by Cincinnati on August 7 and finished the season back in Louisville - where, used as a reliever, he finished the campaign going 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA and a SV in his final 12 games. A former 8th round pick by Oakland in the 1999 Draft, the University of Southern Cal product made his Major League debut with the Athletics in 2004 (1-1, 5.23 in 27 G, 0 GS). After being traded Milwaukee that postseason, Lehr appeared in the Majors with the Brewers in 2005 (1-1, 3.89 in 23 G, GS) and in 2006 (2-1, 8.62 in 1-6 G, 0 GS).
One day after cranking out 20 hits, the Phils' team was held to just seven on Wednesday. Phillies' OF Shane Victorino turned in the only multi-hit game, going 2-6 with a BB in extended duty. OF Michael Spidale (1-2, SB) had the lone RBI, while C Lou Marson (1-2) and 3B Neil Sellers (1-2) recorded the only extra basehits. Marson also scored the team's lone run.
The Phillies' Triple-A Spring Training team (4-3) will again square off against the Yankees' Triple-A squad Thursday, when it travels to Tampa for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
