Trinity University Sends One to Sweets

WALLA WALLA, Wash - The Walla Walla Sweets released the signing of another player on Thursday morning. This week, it was Sam Neely out of Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.

Sam Neely, a 6-foot 5-inch, 220 pound outfielder and pitcher, comes to the Sweets after finishing up his sophomore year at Trinity. The native of Atascadero, CA, has both pitched and played the field for the Tigers. This season, he is 2-6 in five games with one walk and a run scored. From the mound, he has thrown two innings without giving up a run while walking two and striking out two. The team in 13-3.

"Sam Neely comes highly recommended from his coaching staff at Trinity University, and he will primarily be used as a relief pitcher and in the mix at one of the corner outfield spots," said Sweets manager Frank Mutz. "Sam has a good frame, good arm, some power and could be used in the middle of our line up as well. What I like about getting players from Trinity, is they coming from a program that knows how to win. The players understand the commitment and hard work it takes to be successful at the college level."

Opening Day for the Sweets, presented by Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram of Walla Walla, is scheduled for Friday, June 3 against the Victoria HarbourCats.
