Kinston Indians News Release
Losing Streak -
The K-Tribe is struggling through an eight game losing streak, their longest of the season and most since they lost eight in a row in August of last season. Kinston has lost five of the last six games of the streak by one run, with a two-run loss coming in extra innings during that time. In their last three losses, Kinston is hitting 3-for-27 with runners in scoring position. Kinston has lost to four different teams during the streak with their last win coming on Saturday, May 9th in a 5-4 triumph over Myrtle Beach.
Changes, Changes, Everywhere -
The lack of consistency on the K-Tribe roster may also be partially to blame for the skid. With the big club going through a lot of moves and other injuries above, Kinston has already made 25 roster moves this season, including 18 in May. The K-Tribe has also put three players on the DL since May 12th. Only two of Kinston's five pitchers from the opening day starting rotation are still with the team (Berger and Morris).
Today's Changes -
Infielder John Allman was sent to Low A Lake County and Nate Recknagel was called up to Kinston. Recknagel is in the starting lineup tonight. Recknagel is a 6'2", 220 lb right-handed hitting first baseman from Lake Orion, MI. He attended the University of Michigan and was drafted in the 19th round of the first-year player draft by Cleveland. This year Recknagel played in 27 games with Low A Lake County. He hit .293 with 3 home runs, 15 RBI, and a .845 OPS. He hit especially well with runners in scoring position, posting a .357 batting average.
Northern Exposure -
Kinston is just 5-13 against Northern Division teams this season, they are 12-8 against the Southern Division this season.
Road Sweet Road -
Kinston is in the middle of a seven game homestand against Frederick and Potomac. The homestand will be their last multi-series homestand until the end of June (the first week of the second half of the season). After playing 18 of their first 21 games of the season in Kinston, starting Friday May 22nd the K-Tribe will play 16 of their next 19 and 23 of the final 29 games of the first half on the road. The good news is Kinston is hitting .301 on the road this season, scoring 91 runs in just 13 games away from Kinston.
