Tribe falls to Myrtle Beach 10-6, Will Not Make Playoffs for First Time Since 2000

For the first time since the 2000 season, the K-Tribe will not make the Carolina League Playoffs, making it official with a 10-6 loss Friday night in Myrtle Beach. The seven consecutive seasons' of qualifying for the playoffs is a Carolina League record.

Kinston was on the right track early when Carlos Rivero hit a three-run home run in the top of the first inning. Jerad Head followed one batter later with a solo homer, his eleventh home run of the season, giving Kinston a 4-0 advantage. Myrtle Beach came right back, scoring three runs off of Kinston starter Kelvin De La Cruz in the bottom of the first inning. After De La Cruz was chased in the third inning, the Pelicans got to Kinston's bullpen getting four runs off of K-Tribe reliever Kyle Landis in the fourth inning to take an 8-4 lead. Landis (0-2) picked up the loss for Kinston, giving up three hits and four earned runs in 1 1/3 innings. The K-Tribe got multiple hits from Lucas Montero, Jerad Head, Alex Castillo and Cristo Arnal, out hitting Myrtle Beach 12 to 9 but it wasn't enough as the Pelicans handed Kinston their third straight defeat.

Kinston stays in Myrtle Beach for their final three games of the 2008 season. Saturday nights contest will start at 7:05 pm with K-Tribe hurler Carlton Smith on the mound.
