Tri-City Starts Offseason Aimed at Building for Future (Weekly)

The Tri-City Storm have concluded the 2016-17 USHL regular season and will spend the next few weeks preparing for both phases of the USHL Draft, May 1-2. The Storm will host a draft party for season ticket holders, with more details coming over the next few days.

There's also an eye to the professional ranks; NHL Central Scouting listed Tri-City Storm forward Linus Weissbach the 139th-ranked North American skater for the 2017 NHL Draft in the service's Final Rankings. Miami University forward Carson Meyer (TC: 2015-16), was rated #151 among North American skaters. NHL Central Scouting graded former Storm goaltender Dayton Rasmussen the #6 North American goaltender.

The Storm completed the season with a 21-31-6-2 record, 8th in the Western Conference and good for 50 points. Tri-City finished one point back of Omaha and Sioux Falls.

Tri-City Storm Main Camp will be held June 11-16 at the Las Vegas Ice Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The camp will help determine the Storm's 30-man preseason roster.

Need to Know Season Summary Tri-City started the season with points in three straight games (2-0-0-1) and completed the first quarter of the campaign with a 7-5-1-2 record. After starting slowly in the opening two months, Linus Weissbach ranked second in the USHL with 37 points from November 23 - March 11. The 18-year-old led the Storm with 19 goals, 28 assists and 47 points in 49 games. Weissbach topped the Storm with 13 multi-point games.

Adam Goodsir and Wyllum Deveaux, billet brothers in Kearney, were among the league's top rookie scorers. Goodsir ranked third among rookies with 16 goals and also chipped in with 10 assists. Deveaux had 19 assists, fifth among rookies, and 23 points in 53 games. The 16-year-old was Tri-City's youngest player, born August 30, 2000.

Goodsir finished the season as Storm Captain. Jack McNeely and Alex Limoges also donned the "C" before trades.

Tri-City built for the future in February by trading away Limoges, Dayton Rasmussen, Joey Matthews, Charlie Kelleher and Odeen Tufto to contenders for draft picks, players to be named later and affiliate players in February. After the trades, the Storm was 6-12-2-0.

Penalty minute update The Storm set a team record for fewest penalty minutes in a season (714, 11.9 PIMs/game), breaking the mark set in 2015-16. Tri-City finished with the fifth fewest PIMS in the USHL's Tier 1 history.

Tri-City took the fewest PIMS in the league for the second straight season. The Storm also were most-disciplined in minor penalties and went to the penalty kill 207 times, second-fewest in the circuit.

The Tier I record for fewest penalty minutes in a season is 680 (11.3 PIMs/game), established by the Cedar Rapids in 2010-11. Cedar Rapids has three of the four most-disciplined seasons in league history (687 in 2014-15 and 689 in 2008-09). Waterloo finished with 687 penalty minutes in 2013-14.

Iron Men Bryan Yoon and Monte Graham played all 60 games in the 2016-17 season, the first Storm skaters to appear in every game since Kevin Kerr and Cody Milan in 2014-15.

Clark Cup Playoffs At least one former Storm player is guaranteed to be in the 2017 Clark Cup Final. In the Western Conference, all four teams have at least one Storm alum.
