Trenton Steel Sign Former Rutgers Star Thompson

February 21, 2011 - Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL)
Watertown Privateers News Release

The Trenton Steel Indoor Football Team announced the signing of for Rutgers linebacker Devraun Thompson.

The 6-foot, 220-pound Thompson, who was clocked in the 40-yard dash in 4.7 and is a solid tackler, projects as a valuable piece in coach Rod Miller's Steel defense. Twice named Big East Defensive Player of the Week as a senior with the Scarlet Knights in 2006, Thompson is also adept at dropping back into pass coverage.

Having spent time in the New York Giants' preseason camp, Thompson's overall package appears well-suited for the Indoor game. A key strongpoint is his ability to tackle a receiver in the open field, limiting yards after catch.

During his time at Rutgers, he was also an effective pass rusher, showing ability to use his speed to quickly close on the opposing quarterback.

The Steel open their inaugural season in the Southern Indoor Football League March 19 at the Richmond Raiders, with their home-opener at 7:05 p.m. March 26 at the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton.

Season tickets, which start as low as $60, are available. Information can be obtained by calling the Steel offices at 609-656-3300 or on the team's Web site at www.trentonsteel.com. Single-game tickets are available by phone, at the Sun National Bank Center ticket windows, or on-line at www.comcasttix.com
