Macon Trax News Release

[Macon, Ga.]—Two seasons of Macon Trax hockey and two years of major awards for the franchise.

For the second straight year the Trax have been honored with the league's Most Valuable Player, and coach of the Year. For good measure this season, the Trax also added Organization of the Year to their mantle.

David Deeves, who finished second in the WHA2 scoring race, was voted the League's Most Valuable Player. Deeves, in his second season with the Trax, racked up 36 goals and 48 assists for 84 points. He also had a plus/minus rating of +22.

Deeves follows his coach, Tommy Stewart as league MVP, as last year Stewart won the honor when the Trax competed in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League. As coach this year, Stewart was voted by league personnel as the Coach of the Year. He led the Trax to a 30-20-6 mark and a red hot finish, as the Trax went 13-3-1 in their final 17 games. Last season, while Stewart was taking MVP honors, Macon's Brian Curran was the Coach of the Year.

In addition to the individual honors for Deeves and Stewart, the Trax were also recognized as the WHA2 Organization of the year. In making the announcement, David Waronker, chairman of the board of governors for WHA2 said, "On behalf of the WHA2, I wish to congratulate the Heart of Georgia, the players and staff, but most importantly the fans of the Macon Trax for the fantastic past season of hockey."

The Awards were presented just prior to the Trax first game of their semifinal series with the Alabama Slammers. The Trax won the game, 7-2 Wednesday night at the Centreplex to take a one game to none lead in the best of three series. Game two is Thursday night in Alabama at 8:05 p.m. eastern time. If a decisive third game is needed, it will be Friday night in Alabama.

All Trax games can be heard over the internet at www.irn.fm. Pre-game with Adam Minnick starts 15 minutes before every puck drop.
