Trax Rolling In Last Ten Games

December 14, 2004 - SPHL (SPHL)
Macon Trax News Release

[MACON, Ga.] – If the Trax win this Friday night on home ice, it will be the first time the Trax will be in first place in December. In past years, Macon hockey has struggled out of the gate, this season is different.

Over the last 10 games the Trax have won eight times. By winning their last four games in a row, two against their rivals in Jacksonville, Macon has moved to second place in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). Three weeks ago the team was tied for last place, winning only two of their first seven games.

On Friday, Dec. 17, the Trax will host the first place Knoxville Ice Bears. Macon is hoping to "Pack the ‘Plex" for the battle of the top two teams in the SPHL. You can count on the Trax winning almost any game they keep close.

Over the first 17 games the Trax are 8-1 in one or two goal games. Additionally, the Trax have never lost when carrying a lead into the third period.

Much of Macon's success can be attributed to their potent power play. The Trax have converted 29.7-percent of the time they have had the man advantage. No other team in minor professional hockey has come close to duplicating the Trax feats on the man advantage.

"My two power play units have been amazing." said Trax Head Coach Tommy Stewart, "I know it is still early but to say we have the best power play in minor pro is pretty amazing."

The Trax are hoping the success will bring more fans to the Macon Centreplex during the holiday season. Beginning this Friday the Trax will play on home ice five more times before New Year's Day ends.

"I know Macon expects a winner with their teams." said General Manager Joe Suk, "It has been a long time since Macon Hockey has had a front runner this early in the season. I know the fans will enjoy watching this team"

The Trax offer tickets as low as six dollars for every home game. Besides the action on the ice, the Trax promise to provide the best intermission entertainment in the entire Southeast. Fans coming to the game can not only watch some great hockey but also enjoy sumo wrestling, human hamster races and games for cash prizes. This year Trax hockey is guaranteed to be "More Fun Than Makin' Whoopee."

The Trax will be at home against the first place Knoxville Ice Bears Friday Dec. 17. During the holiday season the Trax will bring joy on ice with home games Christmas Night, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Games on the holidays include showdowns with their rivals from Columbus and Jacksonville. Call the Trax at 478-742-4TIX to reserve your seat.
