Macon Trax News Release

[Macon, Ga.]—The Trax rewrite the record books in front of 2,685 on Fan Appreciation Night at the Centreplex. Macon defeated the Loggerheads 14-2 to clinch their playoff spot.

It was hard to pick just one offensive star on the night. All 15 of the Trax players in the lineup recorded at least one point on the night.

The Trax lit the lamp five times in the first period, six times in the second period and three times in the final frame. Edan Welch started his four goal night at the 4:07 mark assisted by David Deeves and Andrew Katzberg.

Other goals in the first period included one from rookie Art Mnatsakanov scoring his fifth goal of the season and David Deeves started his six point night. Craig Miller had the final tally of the opening period as he started his trek towards an eventual hat trick.

Unlike many games this season, the Trax never played conservative hockey with the lead. The Trax had two huge flurries in the second period.

Deeves, Matt Brown and Ryan Rivard all scored within exactly a minute of each other. The middle of the second period was the lone quiet part of the game. Late in the third period the Trax would tack on three more goals.

John Gurskis got into the act with his 23rd goal of the season at the 15:30 mark. Less than a minute later Steve Zoryk would register his lone goal of the night. At the 16:55 Miller notched his second of the night to put the Trax ahead 11-1 after two periods.

The fans wanted more in the final stanza and they got just that. Welch scored his third of the night 2:25 mark of the final frame. Miller finished his three goal performance with his 26th goal of the year at the 7:31 mark. The Trax final tally came when Welch scored his 19th goal of the season, the Trax lone power play goal of the night.

The 14 goals, 38 points, and 12 goal margin are all WHA2 records. Welch tied a league high with his four goal performance. Deeves had six points to tie his own league high. The final record of the night is an individual one. Andrew Katzberg set a WHA2 mark with a +7 rating.

The Trax have one more game in the regular season Sunday at Orlando. If the Trax win they will claim third place in the WHA2 standings. The puck drops at 4:05 from the TD Waterhouse Centre.

Trax playoffs tickets are now on sale. Call the Trax office at 478-742-4849 for more information.
