Trax Come Back
February 3, 2004 - SPHL (SPHL)
Macon Trax News Release
[Macon, Ga.]âThe Trax had never won a game when down after two periods, until tonight. A three goal third period lifted the Trax to a 5-4 victory on home ice.
In their last home game, until Feb. 29, Macon was down by one goal after the second period and two goals when Ryan Paul scored 5:58 into the third period. That would be the last time Lakeland would see the back of the net.
On a frustrating night that saw the Trax hit six posts, one goal disallowed, and the penalty kill not clicking, somehow the Boys In Black rallied for a huge come from behind victory.
Edan Welch started the comeback with his second goal of the night at the 9:05 mark. Four minutes later, Craig Miller tied the game with a power play goal.
At the 18:18 mark the comeback was finished as Miller lit the lamp after Welch's shot rang off the post. Matt Brown had his best game as a Trax member as he assisted on both the game tying and game winning goal.
The Trax looked great out of the gate as Welch opened up the scoring at the 2:59 mark of the first period. Lakeland's Jim Callahan tied the game up at 11:02 to send the team to a 1-1 tie after one.
Another early period goal, this time by Andrew Dickson on the power play, put the Trax ahead early in the middle frame. Lakeland came back with two second period goals. Jim Callahan scored his seventeenth goal of the year and Jeff Glowa his fourth to give the Loggerheads the lead.
The win moved the Trax to within four points of third place in the WHA2. The Trax head out to the road for a season long ten game road trip. The road trip starts with a huge two game series versus Alabama Friday and Saturday.
Heading into the weekend, one of the teams the Trax trail by only four points are their rival Slammers. Two wins would move the Trax to a tie with Alabama and right back in the playoff picture. Puck drops at 7:05 CST both nights.
