Trashers drop Game One of Colonial Cup Championships to Kalamazoo 6-1

KALAMAZOO, MI --Tyler Rennette and Nick Bootland each scored a pair of goals, while Joel Martin stopped 19 of 20 shots as the Danbury Trashers fell to the Kalamazoo Wings 6-1 in the opening game of the Colonial Cup Finals on Friday night at Wings Stadium.

Rennette started the scoring quickly as he netted his 3rd of the playoffs at the 4:01 mark, while Bootland added his first 1:55 later from Rennette to help the Wings take a 2-0 lead after the first period.

Bootland added his second at the 2:53 mark from Rennette and Tyler Willis, while Jason Deitch scored 1:10 later to give the Wings a 4-0 lead. Danbury scored their only goal at the 17:57 mark as Drew Omicioli's 10th of the postseason as assisted by Mike Omicioli and Mario Larocque.

Ryan Barnes was given a game misconduct for a major charging penalty at the 19:50 mark, while Briane Thompson earned a double minor for roughing. It eventually gave Kalamazoo a power play, and they converted as Rennette scored unassisted at the 2:44 mark of the third period to give the Wings a 5-1 lead. Kalamazoo added another power play goal at 17:35 as Lucas Drake knocked a rebound in past Daigle to end the scoring.

Daigle stopped 31 of 37 in the loss, while the Trashers fall behind 1-0 in the best-of-seven series against Kalamazoo for the UHL Championship.

Danbury's Championship Round continues against Kalamazoo on Saturday at 7:30 from Wings Stadium. The Trashers will host game three on May 24th at 7:00, game four on May 26th at 7:30 and May 27th if necessary at 7:30pm. Games six and seven in Kalamazoo if needed will be on May 30th and 31st at 7:00pm
