Countdown to Face-Off
May 19, 2006 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
What started with 14 teams has now dwindled down to just two, as the Kalamazoo Wings and the Danbury Trashers will lace-up their skates in Game One of the United Hockey League Colonial Cup Finals. This is the first Finals appearance for either the K-Wings or the Trashers.
Kalamazoo punched their ticket to the Colonial Cup Finals by sweeping both the Motor City Mechanics and the Rockford IceHogs. The K-Wings eight-straight victories in these playoffs match their season high winning streak, which was set in November.
Danbury earned their way to the Finals by eliminating the Quad City Mallards and the two-time defending Colonial Cup Champion Muskegon Fury. The Trashers are led by David Beauregard and Shawn Collymore, who both are tied for the UHL lead in playoff scoring with 20 points.

Back to the Future
The K-Wings, who will appear in their first Colonial Cup Finals in their franchises history, will also be searching for their first championship since 1980 (Turner Cup). The last time the K-Wings appeared in their league's Finals was back in the 1980-81 season, when they lost in the International Hockey League Finals to Saginaw.
Everyone Has a Part
Just like in the regular season, every K-Wing player that has played a game on their active roster has recorded a point in the 2006 UHL Colonial Cup Playoffs. The K-Wings are the only team in the UHL playoffs that have received point production from every player that has dressed.
Get the Point
Forward Tyler Rennette, who missed 34 straight games to end the regular season, hasn't missed a beat since returning to the K-Wings lineup. Dating back to the injury, Rennette is on a six-game point streak, which includes a two-game postseason scoring streak that includes two goals and two assists.
Four Straight Games
Forward Damian Surma enters week on a four-game point streak. The four-game streak is the longest postseason point streak by any player on the K-Wings roster.
