Training Camp Roster Takes Shape

Macon GA. - Head Coach Tommy Stewart has released the first phase of his training camp roster. The following players have signed try-out contracts.

Fan favorite and high scorer, Luke Murphy, will be returning to the Trax. The 6', 190 lb. center was second in points last season in the ACHL behind current Trax coach Tommy Stewart. In 59 games, he scored 81 points for the Macon Trax. Luke hails from Bryson, Quebec.

John Gurskis, a 6', 190 lb. center, was the captain of the ACHL Winston/Salem Parrots last season. The Brockton, Mass. native had 53 points and 30 penalty minutes in 57 games.

George Cantrall is a 6'3", 215 lb. winger who played the 2000 – 2001 season with the Missouri River Otters of the UHL. In 23 games, he had four points and 56 penalty minutes.

Six year pro, goaltender Al Rooney played six games last season with the ACHL Jacksonville Barracudas and had a .897 save percentage. The 5'10" and 180 lbs. net minder is from North Babylon, NY.

Ryan Rivard split time between Fort Worth Brahmas and Austin Ice Bats of the CHL last season. In 60 games, he had 11 points and 207 penalty minutes. The 6'1", 210 lb. forward is from West Lorne, ONT.

Sean Weaver played his rookie season with the Flint Generals of the UHL. The 6'1", 200 lb. goaltender appeared in 32 games and had a 3.71 goals against average with a .876 save percentage.

Ty Hartigan, a 6'2", 180 lb winger from St. Louis, Mo. played three seasons with the WPHL Monroe Moccasins. In his last season with the Moccasins, he had 12 goals, 18 assists, and 71 penalty minutes in 49 games.

Rookie defensemen, Ben Frank and Ryan McNally; and rookie forwards Jamie Van Hoof, Craig Miller, and Derek Masterson have also been invited to Trax training camp.

Previously announced players Bobby Clouston, Steve Howard, David Deeves, Steve Zoryk, and Brad Rice will also fight for a roster spot at camp.

"The training camp roster is by no means complete." Head Coach Tommy Stewart said. "It is indicative of the type of team that I am attempting to field. I want a well balanced line-up that will include experience, power, and speed."

The Trax open the season on the road in Lakeland versus the Loggerheads on November 6th. The Trax home opener is November 22nd when they will take on the Alabama Slammers. The Trax will also face the Jacksonville Barracudas, Miami Manatees, and Orlando Seals in the 2003 – 2004 inaugural season of the World Hockey Association 2 (WHA2).
