Montreal Alouettes News Release
Trois-Rivières - Since the beginning of training camp, it happens often that we see a receiver make a great catch and wonder who is the player wearing number 83 who just came down with the ball.
After looking down on the roster, we realize that Régis Cibasu is the culprit and that we are just not used to seeing him play at receiver, after watching him play at fullback during his first season with the Alouettes in 2021.
"In January, I was asked to lose some weight, and came down to 230-235 pounds. I lost 34 pounds during the winter. It will allow me to play as receiver and fullback. I am ready to do both. I need to show that I am versatile, physical, and that I can play inside and outside», said the former Université de Montréal Carabin.
"I always played as a receiver at the university level. It's easier for me. I am faster and lighter. It will help me do everything I need to do," he added.
The fact that the hashmarks were moved closer to the middle of the field have been helping Canadian receivers stand out since the start of camp, and we should see them be more much more implicated in the game plan.
"For changes it changes things. The two far receivers will be closer to the ball, and it will be an advantage for us to make more plays."
He said it
"Things are going well for me, I've been happy with my camp so far. I look forward to my debut on Friday. A first professional game is always a good test and I remain confident."
-Tyson Philpot, receiver
Rapid fire
Receivers Cole Spieker and Eugene Lewis stood out at practice today. They caught balls while getting rid of their man on defence... Jake Wieneke was lifting weights on the sideline to keep in shape... Japanese running back Taku Lee made a few nice runs on Tuesday morning, hitting holes before finding his way to the end zone... Prince Smith Jr. intercepted a Trevor Harris pass.
Transactions
The Alouettes signed American receiver Chandler Worthy (Troy), and released American quarterback Benjamin Holmes (Tarleton State) as well as American running back De'Lance Turner (Alcorn State).
