Asheville Tourists News Release
(Asheville, NC) - The Tourists and BlueClaws tangled for game three of their four-game series at McCormick Field Friday night, and another excellent starting pitching performance lifted Lakewood over Asheville, 8-1. BlueClaws starter Jesus Sanchez threw 7.0 innings, allowing just an unearned run on four hits while walking a batter and striking out eight, earning his seventh win of the year.
The BlueClaws scratched out runs in each of the first two innings against Asheville starter Parker Frazier. Travis D'Arnaud plated a run with an RBI double in the top of the first and D'Arby Myers brought a run around to score in the second with an RBI triple to give Lakewood a 2-0 through one and a half innings.
Lakewood did their damage to Frazier in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-out, two-run single off the bat of center fielder Anthony Gose to put his team up 5-0.
The Tourists got on the board in the bottom of the fifth, when Jimmy Cesario led off with a double, his first of two hits on the night. After a couple of strikeouts, Thomas Field hit a chopper to third base, but Travis Mattair threw low to first for an error. The ball got through first baseman Jeremy Hamilton, and Cesario came all the way around to score from second, making it 5-1 Lakewood.
The BlueClaws put the game out of reach with another run in the sixth and two more in the seventh. Harold Garcia picked up an RBI double in the sixth, and Travis Mattair and Troy Hanzawa hit back-to-back sacrifice flies in the seventh to make it 8-1 BlueClaws.
Eryk McConnell and Jordan Ellis combined for two shutout innings out of the bullpen to shut the door on the Tourists. Ellis allowed a hit and a walk in the bottom of the ninth but then struck out the side to end the contest.
The Tourists (16-11) and BlueClaws (16-12) will meet for the finale of their four-game series Saturday night at 7:05. Asheville RHP Juan Nicasio (4-1, 1.71) will get the call for the Tourists, he'll go up against Lakewood RHP Heitor Correa (7-3, 3.65).
