Torres Signs with Road Runners
October 31, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Edmonton Road Runners News Release
The Edmonton Road Runners have signed forward Raffi Torres to an American Hockey League contract.
The 6'0", 216-pound left wing returns to the AHL after spending the 2003-04 season with the Edmonton Oilers, where he established single season career-highs in games, goals, assists, points and penalty minutes. In 80 games with the Oilers, Torres finished fifth on the Edmonton scoring list with 20-14-34. He was +12 with 65 penalty minutes in his first full season in the NHL.
Torres reached the 20-goal milestone for the first time in his career with a powerplay goal versus the Ottawa Senators on March 14, 2004. The 20 goals tied him with Ethan Moreau for the second most by an Oiler last season, behind only Ryan Smyth's team-leading 23.
In 111 career NHL games with the Oilers and New York Islanders, the 23-year-old Toronto, Ontario native has scored 20-20-40 with 81 PIM.
Torres previously played in the American Hockey League with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (2001-02 and 2002-03) and the Hamilton Bulldogs (2002-03). He has scored 38-32-70 with 113 PIM in 129 career AHL games and has added 14-10-24 with 55 PIM in 43 playoff games.
With Bridgeport in 2001-02, he tied for fourth in playoff scoring, helping the Islanders' affiliate advance to the Calder Cup Final, where they lost in five games to the Chicago Wolves.
After being obtained by the Oilers in a trade with the Islanders on March 11, 2003, Torres finished the 2003-04 season with Hamilton, playing 11 regular season games for the Bulldogs and scored 1-7-8 with 14 PIM. He made his second appearance in the Calder Cup Finals as his 6-1-7 in 23 post-season games helped lead Hamilton to the league final, where they fell in seven games to the Houston Aeros.
