Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
Wilkes-Barre, Pa. - Less than 24 hours after Andy Chiodo shutout the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Marc-Andre Fleury followed up with a shutout of his own as he made 28 saves in the Penguins' 2-0 win over the Binghamton Senators before a crowd of 7,727 at Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza.
Fleury, the top pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, recorded his first shutout of his pro career as he improved his record to 3-3.
Ramzi Abid and Shane Endicott recorded a goal and an assist each in the win for the Penguins.
The game was scoreless until late in the second period when Abid scored his sixth goal of the season with eight seconds left in the second period. With Jan Platil off for high-sticking, the Penguins scored 1:43 into the penalty as Abid took a pass from Shane Endicott and beat Emery for his third power play goal of the season.
Late in the third period, Endicott closed out the scoring with an empty net goal at 19:59 to give the Penguins a 2-0 lead. With the win, the Penguins extended their winning streak to season-high three games and have won games on three consecutive days for the first time in team history.
Binghamton goaltender Ray Emery stopped 23 of 24 shots in the loss. The Senators have now lost two straight and fell to 4-4-0-0 on the season.
With their performances in the last two games, Chiodo and Fleury have combined to give the Penguins' back-to-back shutouts for the first time in team history. And with the win, the Penguins are back to .500 (4-4-1-1, 10 points) after starting the season 0-3-1-0.
The Penguins completed a stretch of four games in five days by taking seven out of a possible eight points. They will be off until next weekend when they host the Norfolk Admirals on Saturday (7:05 p.m.) and Sunday (5:05 p.m.) to complete a four-game homestand.
