Torres Homers But Naturals Fall to Travelers
August 4, 2015 - Texas League (TL1)
Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGDALE, AR - With no one out in the bottom half of the fifth inning, Naturals second baseman Ramon Torres connected on the first pitch he saw and launched a two-run home run into the Naturals bullpen to cut the Naturals deficit to three runs, but it was not enough as Northwest Arkansas (14-24, 54-54) fell to the Arkansas Travelers (23-16, 59-49) on Tuesday night by the score of 5-2.
The Naturals switch-hitting, middle infielder went 3-for-4 out of the leadoff spot and paced the 10 hit attack by the Naturals' offense. The Torres' home run was his second at the Double-A level, and his second homer in his last three games at Arvest Ballpark.
Arkansas would do all of their damage in the third inning against Naturals' starter Matt Murray. Anthony Bemboom led off the frame with a bunt single to third base, and Erick Salcedo and Drew Maggi followed with singles of their own to load the bases with no out. Sherman Johnson worked a walk to score Bemboom rand Chad Hinshaw was hit by a pitch to give the Travelers their first two runs of the game. Blake Gailen then hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Maggi. That set the stage for Brian Hernandez, who went 4-for-4 on the night, to single up the middle scoring Salcedo and Maggi to give the Travelers the 5-0 advantage over the Naturals.
Murray (5-2 4.10 ERA) took the loss for the Naturals, while RHP Kyle McGowin (8-7 4.87 ERA) earned the win for the Travelers. After the early outburst in the third by North Little Rock, the Naturals' bullpen consisting of LHP Sam Selman, LHP Daniel Stumpf, and RHP Aroni Nina was terrific as they combined to throw six shutout innings to finish the game.
Northwest Arkansas will conclude their three (3) game series against the Arkansas Travelers, the Double-A Affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, at Arvest Ballpark on Wednesday night.
