Colorado 14ers News Release
DENVER, Feb. 8 - The Austin Toros ran their season high winning streak to nine straight games with a 104-91 victory over the Colorado 14ers on Thursday night. Austin improves to 14-16 on the season with the win, while Colorado falls to 19-9 with the loss.
The duo of Cheyne Gadson and B.J. Elder led the way for Austin with 21 points each. Elder heated up in the second quarter, hitting 3-pointers on three out of four possessions for the Toros. Austin outscored Colorado 33-20 in the second period on their way to a 56-47 halftime lead.
"I know when Cheyne is out there and going well and B.J.'s been playing like this all year, it has to make a coach real comfortable." said Toros coach Dennis Johnson. "They just play very well together. Without having a lot of time to practice or play together, they are playing very well together right now."
Austin led by as many as 17 points in the 3rd quarter before Colorado made a run late in the game. The 14ers cut the lead to 10 points with just under 10 minutes remaining, but couldn't pull any closer until the final minute of the game.
Elton Brown led Colorado with 21 points and pulled down nine rebounds in the loss. Pooh Jeter added 16 points, 11 assists, and five rebounds for the 14ers in defeat.
Colorado is at home again on Sunday night, February 11 to host the Idaho Stampede. Austin will look to extend its win streak to 10 straight games at Sioux Falls on Tuesday, February 13.
