
Toros Host Colorado for Back-To-School Weekend

EDINBURG, Texas - For the first time since 2019, the Rio Grande Valley FC (8-5-4, 28 pts.) will face Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (7-6-4; 25 pts.) at H-E-B Park on Saturday, August 14. Kickoff is set at 7 p.m. CST.
As a back-to-school celebration, RGV FC will giveaway backpacks to the first 1,000 fans, presented by Reliant Energy. The backpacks will display the Toros logo along with Reliant's. Interviews available.
The Toros have not yet played against the Switchbacks this season. The last time both squads met was in 2019. RGV FC holds the overall record over Colorado at 6-1-2, remaining undefeated at home against the Switchbacks 4-0-0.
RGV FC: The Toros lost 1-2 to San Antonio FC last Sunday night, with Juan Carlos Azocar being the lone scorer for the final regular-season South Texas Derby. Azocar now leads the Toros with five total goals scored. Rodrigo Lopez and Christian Sorto stood out as well on Sunday after each totaled three shots, while Lopez created two opportunities. In addition, Alexis Cerritos was able to create three chances for the night. Colin Miller has stepped up at goal as he totaled two big saves on Sunday. Aside from that performance, Miller earned the USL Championship Fans' Choice Save of the Week - Week 16 after a shutout game against Real Monarchs SLC.
COS: Colorado is a dangerous attacking team, as they have the leading scorer in the USL Championship, Hadji Barry with 16 goals in 17 appearances. Michee Ngalina has also scored five goals and distributed seven assists, tied for the league-lead. Ngalina also leads the Switchbacks with 31 created chances. One familiar face from the Colorado squad is DeShane Beckford, former RGV FC player, who has scored three goals and tallied four assists. At the goal, Sean Melvin has totaled 33 saves while conceding 19 goals. Abraham Rodriguez has totaled 14 saves and conceded seven goals.
