Toronto Rock News Release

Toronto, ON - The Toronto Rock and the Ontario Special Olympics teamed up last Friday night for the Rock's Third Annual Charity Classic. The Ontario Special Olympics is a community based program committed to providing sports training and competition for people with intellectual disabilities. The program uses local sports clubs to give athletes the opportunity to train and compete in Invitational and Regional meets throughout the year. These extraordinary athletes of all ages, races and ability display courage and perseverance that comes from the simple yet powerful oath; "Let me win, but if I cannot, let me be brave in the attempt".

In last week's bout against Philadelphia, the Rock unveiled a unique set of third jerseys in front of an arena full of excited fans. The jerseys were auctioned off in a silent auction through the first half of the game on the concourse level at the ACC. At the end of the game, the jerseys were signed by the players and awarded to the winners on the floor. Proceeds from the auction, plus $1 from every ticket that was sold was donated to the Ontario Special Olympics. Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment assisted in the fundraising efforts by matching the $1 donation from every ticket with an additional dollar. The Rock, along with MLSE, was able to make a $30,000 donation to the Ontario Special Olympics.
