Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

TORONTO, ON — The Toronto St. Michael's Majors had to defeat the Kingston Frontenacs this evening to ensure a spot in the playoffs; and they did so with authority, coming out on top of the 8-3 score. With the win, the Majors record improves to 29-29-6-3 and they up their point total to 67.

The Majors came flying out of the gates as Tyler Haskins got them on the board only 4:57 into the contest, with the assists going to Scott Lehman and Colin Power. Then, Peter Franchin made it 2-0 at 7:39 when he took passes from Darryl Boyce and Nathan McIver and fired home a wrist shot. Kingston's Chris Stewart cut the lead to 2-1 when he struck off of a Bobby Hughes pass at 11:51.

In the 2nd period, the Majors jumped out in front 4-1 off of Dale Good and Alexei Ivanov goals at 2:10 and 4:45, respectively. The helpers were credited to Power, Haskins, Ryan Wilson and Tyler Donati. However, Kingston produced two straight goals of their own, off the sticks of Anthony Stewart and Bobby Bolt at 7:18 and 13:39, respectively. The assists were given to Hughes, Chris Stewart, Evan Kotsopoulos and Justin Wallingford. Yet, the Majors responded with two more tallies to close out the period, from Wilson and Ivanov at 16:47 and 19:43, respectively. The support came from Power, Lehman, Jeff Larsh and Justin Donati.

Toronto added the icing to the cake in the final frame when Power tickled the twine at 3:12 and Larsh rifled home a wrist shot at 14:25. The assists on these goals went to McIver (2), Haskins and Wilson.

Justin Peters got the start in net for Toronto and turned aside 39 shots. Dayne Davis played the first two periods for Kingston and allowed 6 goals on 26 shots. Brady Morrison came on to make 6 saves in the final frame. The Majors finished the day 0 for 4 on the power-play while the Frontenacs were 0 for 7. The game's three stars were Power (1st), Haskins (2nd) and McIver (3rd).
