Worcester Tornadoes News Release
WORCESTER, MA--- In a two hour and fifty-two minute game that began on the third of July and ended on Independence Day, the Worcester Tornadoes got a walk-off single from second baseman Jeff LaHair in the bottom of the tenth to beat New Jersey 1-0.
This contest did not get underway until about 9:10 after thundershowers postponed the first pitch, but fans at the HIP were not disappointed. Chris Farley (0-0) received a no decision but was stellar in his seven innings of work. He struck out seven total, which included the side in the sixth frame. Myron Leslie was ejected in that same inning after arguing balls and strikes (particularly two nasty backdoor sliders) with home plate umpire Richard Katz.
Seth Overbey (2-2) received the loss after giving up the game winning RBI in relief of Giuseppe Granitto, who had an almost identical seven inning, three hit performance as Farley.
Quinn Stewart, recently off of the DL with a leg injury, was struck in the head with a Chris Farley pitch in the top of the first and left the ballgame. He is resting comfortably for precautionary measures at St. Vincent Hospital with stitches, but otherwise has not lost sight or facial movement.
Tonight at 7:05pm, pre game at 6:50, LHP Ryan Lobban (4-1) gets his first shot at league leading win number five for Worcester, against LHP AJ Wideman (3-0) who will try to remain perfect. Jumptown USA Skydiving will provide pre game entertainment at Hanover Insurance Park. Happy Fourth of July!
