Texas Tornado News Release
It was a showdown between two top teams at Dr Pepper Arena last weekend. The Texas Tornado played host to the Amarillo Bulls in the first two games these teams have played against each other since Amarillo eliminated the Tornado from the playoffs last season. After a tough overtime loss on Friday, Texas played one of its best games of the year in a 3-0 victory. After Amarillo beat Corpus Christi on Sunday, the Tornado are now five points behind the Bulls for the lead in the South Division.
Friday, November 18th- Hoy's late heroics not enough as Texas falls to Amarillo in OT
In a game which featured 18 minor penalties and a game-tying goal by Michael Hoy in the final seconds, the Tornado lost to the Bulls on Friday by an overtime score of 4-3. Brooks Behling's hat-trick marker at 1:20 of overtime gave Amarillo the victory in the first meeting between the two teams since the Bulls knocked Texas out of the playoffs last season. Mitch McPherson scored his first career NAHL goal while Jack Prince added his 10th of the season, but Hoy's goal with just 4.1 seconds remaining on the clock was the goal that forced overtime. Joakim Jutras made 17 saves, but was unable to stop Behling's shot from the right-wing circle in the extra period.
Saturday, November 19th- Tornado bounce back to shut out Bulls
The Texas Tornado rebounded from Friday's tough overtime, scoring a goal in each period to shut out the Amarillo Bulls by a score of 3-0 on Saturday night. Mico Solorzano, Jordan Lovick, and Marc Biggs all tallied goals for the Tornado, who pulled within three points of the Bulls for the lead in the South Division. Joakim Jutras stopped all 23 shots he faced, en route to his second shutout of the season. Before any goals could be scored, however, a post-whistle scuffle escalated into all 10 skaters pairing up and squaring off with one another. When the dust finally settled, the Tornado lost their entire fourth line to game misconducts, with Skyler Spiller, Conner Burton, and Mitch McPherson all sent to the dressing room. Amarillo also lost John Rey and Omar Mullen to game misconducts, while Friday's hero, Brooks Beiling, was injured in the scrum and did not return.
