Texas Tornado News Release
The Texas Tornado have acquired defenseman Mychal Monteith from the Corpus Christi IceRays in exchange for a combination of tenders and draft picks. Monteith, who is committed to play his college hockey at Niagara University next season, had been Corpus Christi's captain in the 2011-2012 season.
"Monteith a really solid player who's good on the power play, and he does everything we need out of our defenseman," Tornado head coach and General Manager Tony Curtale said. "With the Tornado hosting the Robertson Cup this season, we got a chance to pick up a veteran defenseman that we couldn't pass up.
"He's a guy we know well that we tried to sign a couple of years ago," Curtale added. "It didn't work out then, but we're glad to have him now."
Monteith, who split time between St. Louis and Corpus Christi last season, scored 17 points in 52 games in 2010-2011. This year, he has picked up 1 goal and 7 assists in 17 games with the IceRays.
