South Georgia Tormenta FC News Release
STATESBORO, Ga. - South Georgia Tormenta FC has announced the transfer of Rodney Michael to USL Championship-side Indy Eleven for an undisclosed fee, pending league and federation approval. Michael becomes the club's second transfer to Indy Eleven after Conner Antley's historic move in 2019 and third transfer of the 2022 offseason.
The Sierra Leone international joins Indy Eleven after competing for both Tormenta FC's USL League One and League Two teams in 2021. Michael signed his first professional contract with the club following a breakthrough start to the season with Tormenta FC 2. He finished the 2021 season with one goal and two assists in 16 League One matches.
Michael impressed the Tormenta FC coaching staff in his short time with TFC 2, scoring five goals, including two braces, in just five matches. Before making the professional jump, Michael helped TFC 2 rise to the top of the Deep South Division standings and earned League Two Goal of the Month honors and a number 10 spot on the USL League Two Top Prospects list.
The forward spent three seasons with the University of California at Santa Barbara, where he scored 23 goals and recorded 15 assists in 58 starts. In 2019, Michael helped UC Santa Barbara advance to the NCAA Soccer Quarterfinal Championships.
Michael's move signifies the club's continued commitment to developing players and helping them achieve their highest potential, wherever that may be. South Georgia also hopes to further integrate with the global game and use the transfer market to reinvest in its talent and build its club for today and tomorrow. Tormenta FC thanks Michael for his efforts and contribution during his time at the club and wishes him the best in his new journey.
The club is excited to open its new soccer-specific stadium in Statesboro, Georgia, during the 2022 season, with more details to be announced this spring. Supporters should purchase tickets in advance to secure their spot in the new stadium and cheer on Tormenta FC across USL League One, League Two and W League.
