Tormenta FC Reveals 2021 USL League One Preseason Lineup

STATESBORO, Ga. - In preparation for the 2021 USL League One season, South Georgia Tormenta FC has revealed its preseason schedule, which kicks off on Saturday, March 13, against the 2018 MLS Cup champions Atlanta United FC in a closed-door friendly. The club's preseason lineup also includes matches against the USL Championship's Tampa Bay Rowdies and Charlotte Independence and the Georgia Southern University men's soccer team.

"We have an exciting preseason lineup, which will provide some really strong tests early in the development of this young group," TFC Head Coach Ian Cameron said. "Atlanta United is a cool game for our boys and our organization. We're the only two professional soccer organizations in the state of Georgia, and we already have a good relationship on the youth development end. Our players are young and hungry to show they can one day play at the MLS level, so this will give them firsthand experience of that level and how close they are to reaching it.

"The Tampa Bay Rowdies have been one of the USL Championship's most consistent performers under Neill Collins, so that game will provide us the second test in a row where the opposition is better than us, and we will have to execute training fundamentals to a very high standard to simply compete. We have a great working relationship with Georgia Southern and Coach Murphy, and his staff is as equally responsible as our staff for growing soccer within our community. Each year, this game serves as a celebration of our work together. Charlotte Independence closes out our preseason schedule on April 3 and will be a perfect test in preparation for starting USL League One play in April. Coach Jeffries and his staff are always skilled at acquiring top talent to their organization, and it will be fun as ever to compete with them as a final dress rehearsal for the 2021 campaign."

Tormenta FC played Atlanta United 2 during preseason in 2019 and is now honored to take on the first team on March 13, as it will be Gabriel Heinze's first match as Head Coach of the MLS side. A week later, Tormenta FC will see a familiar face, former TFC standout Conner Antley, in Tampa and looks to defeat the Rowdies for a third time after taking them down 3-2 in both the 2019 and 2020 preseasons. April 3 will be Tormenta FC's second time battling the Charlotte Independence in preseason after falling 2-4 in Colombia, South Carolina, last year.

Tormenta FC holds an all-time 2-0-0 record against Georgia Southern and this year's home match against the Eagles is included in the 2021 season ticket packages, while non-season ticket members can purchase general admission tickets for $5 and students will be able to attend for $1. Together, Tormenta FC and Georgia Southern Men's Soccer will donate all the proceeds to a local organization to be announced at a later date.

The 2021 USL League One season is set to kick off by May 8 and will feature a 28-game slate running through October and culminating in a six-team playoff to take place in November.
