June 27, 2019 - United Soccer League One (USL1)
South Georgia Tormenta FC News Release
For the second year in a row, Tormenta FC is hosting high-potential youth players through their Development Squad. This summer's Development Squad players come from Tormenta's Youth Academy, Wofford College, Davidson College and Georgia Southern University. Four players from Pro Shottas Soccer School in Barbados have also joined the Development Squad for two weeks.
Tormenta's relationship with Pro Shottas Soccer School in Barbados began three years ago when Head Coach John Miglarese traveled to help coach their team. Three of the players go to St. Leonard's Boys' Secondary School which is notorious for producing athletic champions in Barbados. On top of educational success, all four players have represented Barbados internationally at the U23, U20, and U17 levels.
"Lemar Catlyn is 16 and fresh from playing for Barbados in the U17 World Cup Qualifiers," said Pro Shottas Coach Greg Castagne. "The others are all 17, Jaiden Miller, Tyrique Belle, and Niall Reid-Stephen."
"I think all the boys are really excited to be here," Castagne said. "This is a dream for them, they all hope to get soccer scholarships or try out for pro teams."
The Development Squad spends six weeks together living, eating and training with the USL League One and League Two teams while playing in six reserve matches versus other teams in the Deep South Division. The development players also have the opportunity to sub on for Tormenta 2 regular season play.
These young men have an opportunity to grow and hone their skills that most players at their age do not receive.Outside of the pitch and training grounds, the Development Squad players live in the same complex on Georgia Southern's campus as the League Two players. Allowing the two teams to intermingle and create memories truly helps build a memory to last a lifetime for these young players.
