South Georgia Tormenta FC News Release
STATESBORO, Ga. - Placing South Georgia Tormenta FC above One Knoxville SC on the USL League One table, TFC secured a big win from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium in Statesboro, Georgia, on Saturday evening, earning a 1-0 victory in the regular season contest. Heading into halftime, Mukwelle Akale gave Tormenta FC the lead from outside the box.
Early in the first half, goalkeeper Pablo Jara was called into action and the Chilean made several saves to keep the score line even, tallying four saves after 45 minutes of play.
After drawing his own foul, Mukwelle Akale found the top right corner of the net from outside the box in the 47th minute, the 2nd minute of first-half stoppage time, to give TFC the lead heading into the half.
Entering the second half, One Knoxville SC continued to take shots on Jara early on. After tallying four on-target shots in the first half, they added three more in the second half.
One Knox made an effort to find a spark late in the second half after using all five of their allotted substitutes. TFC, in turn, made four offensive changes to further their attacking chances.
The game proved physical after the center referee handed out seven total yellow cards during the duration of play. There was never a dull moment and after playing nine minutes of action packed stoppage time in the second half, the referee blew the final whistle.
After jumping up a spot on the USL League One table, Tormenta FC now turns its attention to another important match, on their road to the playoffs, against Richmond Kickers at 6:00 p.m. ET from City Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 30 (ESPN+).
