South Georgia Tormenta FC News Release
STATESBORO, Ga. - South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 secured its fifth consecutive win after obtaining a 4-0 victory at home against Southern Soccer Academy. Alejo Binaghi, Owen Marshall, Nick Akoto and Dominik Kurija contributed with a goal in tonight's win. With this win, Tormenta FC 2 is tied in points with second place Asheville City SC and will continue to push for a playoff spot with three games remaining.
In the 25th minute, Tormenta FC 2 scored first after Brian Gonzalez delivered a pass through the SSA defense, finding Binghi, who curled it past the keeper's left. With this goal, Binaghi now has four this season.
Ten minutes after the first goal, South Georgia found its second goal off a corner kick. A perfectly placed ball by JC Ngando found the head of Marshall, who headed the ball perfectly into the back of the net.
Tormenta FC 2 found its third goal of the night a minute later. Ngando put a through ball behind the SSA back line to put Nick Akoto in a one-on-one position with the keeper. Akoto, unable to be stopped by defenders, capitalized off the opportunity and slid it past the left side of the SSA keeper.
After holding possession on top of the 18, Kurija finalized tonight's score in the 70th minute after blasting a shot yards outside the box.
To note, Tormenta FC academy alum Stephen O'Hearn made his USL League Two debut after coming in for Eric Cotton in the 74th minute of the match. O'Hearn becomes the seventh Tormenta FC Academy product to play for Tormenta FC 2. Both keepers earned South Georgia's fourth clean sheet of the season.
Tormenta FC dominated the field in today's match, taking 11 corner kicks, nine shots and four goals. South Georgia's defense remained strong throughout and worked diligently to keep the ball in possession. Tormenta FC 2 limited SSA to only one shot on goal throughout the night.
Tonight's Player of the Match, presented by Galactic Comics and Games, is Nick Akoto. Akoto's pace and ability to easily take on players made him exponential in the attack. Akoto also helped keep the clean sheet in tonight's 4-0 win at home.
South Georgia's pre-professional soccer team, Tormenta FC 2, has helped nearly 50 players achieve their professional dreams since 2015. TFC 2 finished its season as champion of the Deep South Division in 2018 before making a run to the League Two Semifinals for the first time in club history in 2019. In 2021, Tormenta FC 2 finished the season with a 12-4-1 overall record (10-3-1 in the regular season), qualifying for the League Two Playoffs for a third straight season.
