Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, IL – Defenseman Kerry Toporowski, the Quad City Mallards' all-time penalty minutes leader and one of the franchise's most popular players ever, is expected to play his first game of the season tonight, when the Mallards host the Muskegon Fury at 7:00 p.m. at The MARK of the Quad Cities.

"Topper" has been on injured reserve since training camp as he completed rehabilitation from an injury sustained last season. He has been practicing with the Mallards for the past two weeks.

Toporowski is expected to add toughness to a Mallards lineup that is already on pace to more than double the number of major fighting penalties committed last season. He will also add to the depth of the defense in the absence of fourth-year standout Andy Fermoyle, who was called up this week to the American Hockey League's Portland Pirates, a Mallards affiliate.

Last season, Toporowski compiled a +15 plus/minus rating, tenth among UHL defensemen, despite playing just half the regular season schedule, a total of 38 games. He led the Mallards with 244 penalty minutes, placing him fifth among the league's blueliners. In the playoffs, he assisted on five goals and earned a +6 plus/minus rating in 12 games. A member of the 1998 and 2001 Colonial Cup Championship Mallards teams, the 32-year-old native of Paddockwood, Saskatchewan, was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the fourth round of the 1991 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

Tonight's 7:00 p.m. between the Mallards and the Muskegon Fury is Ladies Night with the World Famous Chippendales! During the game at The MARK of the Quad Cities, enjoy Q106.5's Dwyer & Michaels Drink Specials – just $2 for daiquiris and margaritas, only $1 for non-alcoholic drinks.

In the first intermission, the Dwyer & Michaels Chunky-Dales, who each weigh in at more than 300 pounds, will challenge the Chippendales to a competition of strength and will of Olympic-sized proportions.

The Chippendales will perform a post-game show at The MARK of the Quad Cities, beginning at approximately 10:00 p.m. All adults at least 18 years of age with tickets to the game are admitted to the Chippendales post-game show at no additional charge. Tickets range from $6.50 to $15.50 and are on sale now at The MARK box office, all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at (563) 326-1111, and online by following the Tickets link at www.qcmallards.com.
